Homer, Father of Western Literature: The Iliad    NEW!

The epic poems the Iliad and the Odyssey are the foundations of Western, and for that matter, world literature. The poems are traditionally attributed to Homer, who is believed to have lived around 700 BCE in a Greek colony on the coast of modern-day Turkey. The epics have inspired writers, artists, and filmmakers for all these many centuries since then. In these sessions (one of the Iliad and one for the Odyssey), we shall ask: Who was Homer, and was he a real person? What is the background, history and mythology of these poems? Was there really a Trojan War upon which the poems were based? Why have they captured, and continue to capture, the imaginations of so many artists?
