Pottery

Wheels are in place for pottery labs with instructor Greg Gwilt with 30 years of experience from New York to Penland Studios, NC to Ocala.

In the Beginning Sculpture course, we’ll utilize pinch, coil, slab and additive/reductive techniques for creating hand built clay sculpture. Each student will build a sculpture of their own imaginative expression using these techniques as applicable to their particular piece. Our sculptures will be built using a durable once-fired sculpture clay body.

A-Tisket, A-Tasket, it’s time to make a basket! Ceramic, woven, basket forms make great gifts as well as being functional vessels of containment. In this course, we’ll incorporate coils or clay slats to construct a basket form of the maker’s choice. Potters will make their baskets in the first session and glaze them in the second session.

This is a fun and openly creative class in which clay artists will build a mask form of their choosing from their imaginations. The class will focus on individual making and personal expression through clay work using terra cotta clay. We will base the mask on a human, or semi-human, likeness with various alterations. Surface shapes and textures will be explored and utilized. Both class meetings will be raw clay building sessions; masks will be once-fired terra-cotta.

Consider the endless possibilities of creating a decorative ceramic wall plaque. Clay wall plaques have been utilized all around the world for hundreds of years. In this course, we’ll utilize surface treatments from bas-relief and varied imaginative attachments to glaze decorating techniques. These pieces make wonderful gifts, too. Studio fee included. All levels of expertise welcome.

Looking for something messy and organic looking, try hypertufa - a totally different type of pottery made with cement, perlite and water with Diane Cahal. We are always expanding our pottery choices at Master the Possibilities.
