Distance Learning

What is Distance Learning?

Distance Learning has to do with structuring classes in nontraditional ways. Either the instructor, the student, or both may be in a remote location outside the traditional classroom setting. The "distance" may not only be in location, but in time. MTP provides distance learning courses in several such forms. The types and descriptions are listed below.

DISTANCE LEARNING COURSE TYPES:

Pre-Recorded – Pre-recorded courses are published online. After registering for the class, students receive login information to view the course recording at any time from a web browser via the internet. Students may watch the recording any number of times until the expiration date of the course (usually at the end of the term). Instructor handouts, when provided, may be downloaded from the recording playback. Instructors may also opt to provide for questions to be submitted and answered by email.

Live Virtual – These distance learning classes are broadcast from the instructor's location to a students' computer, tablet, or phone via the internet. When registering for this type of course, students receive the login information to participate in the class at the scheduled date and time. Students can ask questions by typing or by microphone if the student's device is equipped with one, and with the instructor's permission. Some situations may be restricted to typed questions only.

Hybrid Virtual – Registering for a hybrid virtual class means the student will be "tuning in" to a class that is being held in a classroom. The participant in this type of distance learning course can see and hear the instructor and interactions with the students present in the classroom. Students can ask questions by typing or by microphone if the student's device is equipped with one, and with the instructor's permission. Some situations may be restricted to typed questions only.
