This 100-hour introductory course provides participants with foundational skills in both welding and machining, preparing them for entry-level employment and/or continued training in manufacturing and skilled trades. Students will gain hands-on experience in a shop environment while developing an understanding of workplace safety, tools, equipment, basic manufacturing processes, and employer expectations. The welding and machining components will be taught on separate days, allowing students to gain practical experience in both areas. The 18 hours of Job Readiness will focus on the skills necessary to successfully enter and retain employment, including resume development, interviewing, workplace communication, professionalism, teamwork, attendance, employer expectations, and workplace problem-solving. The course fee is covered by Empire State Development through the ON Ramp initiative.
