Learn to interpret views, understand the alphabet of lines, read dimensions and tolerances, and analyze basic round and rectangular part drawings, the visual language of manufacturing and design.

This course introduces the fundamental skills, knowledge, and safety practices required for entry-level employment in the manufacturing and machining industries. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory experiences, students develop proficiency in workplace safety, precision measurement, blueprint reading, machinist mathematics, and basic machining operations. The course includes OSHA 10 General Industry and forklift operation training, along with instruction in benchwork, layout methods, gage blocks, drilling, tapping, threading, and the use of common shop equipment. Students learn to interpret engineering drawings, perform essential shop calculations, and use precision measuring tools including tape measures, calipers, and micrometers. The course also introduces engine lathe and knee mill operations, providing foundational machine tool skills needed for continued training and career advancement in manufacturing.
