This course is intended for beginning and advanced students. Beginning students learn the art of lapidary, cutting and polishing gemstones that can be used to make beautiful jewelry. Using diamond-based lapidary equipment, each participant will make 2-3 finished gemstones. No prior experience is required. Advanced students are those that have taken this course before and will, therefore, require less supervision. They will be allowed to work with a larger range of and more challenging lapidary materials. Special thanks goes to The Southwest Gem and Mineral Society in San Antonio for supplying the lapidary equipment used in the class.
A supply fee of $30 is payable to the instructor and provides safety equipment, raw gemstones, use of all tools and equipment, and jewelry materials. Please note that the upcoming lapidary program will be held at a new location: the NISD Testing Annex Classroom, located at 5647 Grissom Rd, San Antonio, TX 78238.

- Designing Your Own Egyptian-Inspired Necklace: Unleash your creativity as you design and create a personalized Egyptian-inspired necklace, featuring cascading coils reminiscent of the Nile River or the sun's rays.
- Adding the Finishing Touches: Learn how to create a secure and stylish clasp, as well as add decorative elements inspired by Egyptian hieroglyphs or scarab beetles.
- Optional Projects: Want to take your skills to the next level? Explore the option of creating matching earrings and a bracelet to complement your necklace.
What to Bring: Basic wire wrapping tools: round nose pliers, flat nose pliers, cutters, a ruler, and a Sharpie marker. A supply fee of $15-$20, payable to the instructor at the beginning of class, covers the cost of wire and other materials.
