Are you interested in getting started on your sewing journey, or have a sewing machine you just can't figure out? Join us for this beginner workshop where Alethea Skeen, owner of It's Knot What it Seams in Bristol, VA, will guide each participant through the ins and outs of learning to operate a sewing machine!

Topics covered will include:

• Threading and winding bobbin
• Stitch width and length
• Tension settings
• Troubleshooting issues
• Different types of stitches and machine feet options
• Overview of different kinds of machines for various projects
• ...and more!

Participants will end the session by practicing stitches on scrap fabric once the basics have been covered.

Sewing machines will be provided and are limited. Participants are welcome and encouraged to bring their own portable machines if they have one. Thread and scrap fabric will also be provided by the instructor.

Join us for the second part of the beginner sewing series and learn how to read and understand patterns, choose a fabric, and assemble a final project using a pattern!

This will be a two-part session. On November 8th, students will become familiar with reading and understanding pattern sizing and terms, as well as pick their fabrics from a selection provided by instructor Alethea Skeen. At the end of the class, students will have cut the pattern out of their chosen fabric.

The second session on November 15th will combine all topics learned to assemble the final project. Students will walk away with their finished project and the knowledge to continue their sewing journey!

All materials will be provided as well as portable sewing machines. Students are welcome and encouraged to bring their own sewing machines for the second session if available.

Join us for a relaxing afternoon of learning the art of sourdough! Whether you are a beginner or want to develop your skills, this workshop will walk you through every step to a beautiful loaf.

This is a four-hour workshop instructed by Treasure Phillips, owner of The Sourdough Treasury in Kingsport. All supplies to make the dough are included in the class fee. Students will need to bring their own hand towel, apron (optional) and a banneton/other container to transport their loaf in to bake the next day.

Class will be held at the Northeast State Community College Blountville campus from 1pm - 5pm in the Technical Education Complex room 028.
