What's News: Media Literacy - Meeting Online

Are we living in a “post-fact” era? Facts still exist but they can be tricky to separate from fiction, satire, lies, and other non-fact information out there. It is crucial, in light of current events, to go beyond just trusting certain sources and actually investigate. We’ll assess how likely something is to be true, evaluate sources for ulterior motives or biases, use research tools to check on things we’re not sure about, and more! Many sessions will involve using a computer for research. Each Wednesday, you'll receive an email with links to the week's lessons and activities which you can do at your own pace. Discussions with classmates will take place on Slack, an online chat/message site. For students who prefer interacting through live video rather than text, a casual and optional weekly video conference is offered Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.
