Introduction to Feng Shui

There was no formal architectural study in ancient China. Feng Shui was the school of study and practice in architecture. Almost all constructions in ancient China were site selected, designed and built according to Feng Shui rules, as small as a domestic house and as large as a capital city. Since the 60's of the last century, the study of Feng Shui has become popular in the western world with lots of books published in English and other languages. Basically, Feng Shui is categorized in two schools, namely the Form School and the Compass School. The Form School deals with the natural landscape and environment while the Compass School deals with time and direction. Feng Shui is not religious nor superstitious, which can be studied in a very logical manner. This course is a very brief introduction when participants will learn about the underpinning elements of Feng Shui principles, such as Tai Ji, trigrams, He Tu, Lo Shu, I Jing, five elements, heavenly stems and earthly branches etc. and then knock on the doors of the two schools of Feng Shui. The whole class will be conducted with emphasis on science and logic. After this course is completed, a more comprehensive course on Feng Shui techniques will be organized, depending on the interest and enthusiasm of the participants.
