Flying Saucer Cinema - Spring

This classic science fiction film appreciation class showcases beloved films that cry out for viewing in a group setting the way they were first presented to the world. Each week will bring something new, films ranging from Golden Age sci-fi of the 1950s and 60s to the dystopian science fiction of the 1970s and occasional forays beyond.

Host Eric Cohen will be your guide and provide you with film information, trivia, and lively post-screening discussion every week. We welcome in the spring of 2026 with Reptilicus, a ridiculous yet endearing Danish-American 1961 monster movie about a reconstituted dinosaur-type creature with kaiju aspirations. Things get darker in our second entry for the quarter, Night of the Demon, the 1957 Jacques Tourneur (Cat People, Out of the Past) horror classic about an American parapsychologist (film heavy Dana Andrews) who travels to England to investigate a satanic cult. Mixing things up, we then turn to the 1972 gonzo Frogs, an “eco-horror story” in which leading man Ray Milland, an old-school patriarch lording over a private island mansion, is confronted by a host of very angry amphibians, snakes, birds, leeches, lizards, and butterflies. To end the quarter on an upbeat note, we will be screening the groovy 1966 Italian psychedelic science fiction wonder Wild, Wild Planet, a swinging camp classic about a mad scientist bent on engineering a superior race of beings (Move over, Dr. Evil!).

Whether you are a seasoned science fiction film buff or simply want to put your head in a different place for a couple of hours every week, this will be an engaging, fun adventure of a class you won't want to miss!
