Grant funding can be a powerful resource, but only when organizations are prepared to pursue it thoughtfully and sustainably. This course is designed for staff and leaders at nonprofits, government agencies, and community-based organizations who are new to grants or want to strengthen how they approach grant opportunities.
Rather than focusing on proposal writing alone, the course helps participants understand grant readiness, funding strategy, and the systems required to pursue and manage grants responsibly. Participants will learn how funders think, how to assess organizational fit for funding opportunities, and how to build internal practices that support successful grant pursuit and stewardship.
The course addresses common misconceptions about grants, explores equity-centered grantmaking considerations, and provides practical tools for deciding when -- and when not -- to apply. Emphasis is placed on clarity, alignment, and long-term capacity building rather than chasing funding at all costs.
