Basic Anesthesia Instrumentation – ACE 1213: 13 Clock Hours
13 hours of lecture time (1.6 hours of asynchronous lectures per week for 8-weeks with ancillary assignments and readings delivered in an asynchronous format)
Course Description
This course focuses on the equipment and instrumentation utilized in providing anesthesia. Topics to be covered include the anesthesia machine, airway equipment, and basic setup. In addition, ancillary equipment including but not limited to gas cylinders, hospital gas supply lines, ventilators, absorbers, and pulse oximetry will be covered. Set-up, calibration, operation, basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and safety checks will be examined. Didactic is provided to prepare the student with cognitive learning related to anesthesia technology basic instrumentation.

1. Apply theoretical knowledge to demonstrate competency in the use and care of basic anesthesia equipment and instrumentation.
2. Communicate concepts and theoretical knowledge to maintain the anesthesia work area in the anesthesia care environment.
3. Communicate concepts and theoretical knowledge related to the anesthesia machine setup, functions, calibration, safety checks, operation, basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and maintenance logs.
