Sense of Place: Poets of the Appalachians, A

We will explore how poets have celebrated the geographical and social landscape of Appalachia from Maine to Alabama. We’ll develop an appreciation for the "poetry of place" and for the rich variety of writers—from Whittier, Millay, Frost and Sandburg to Giovanni, Arnoult, Rash, and even Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam--who have sought to capture the essence of Appalachia. Ultimately, we'll educate our imaginations through sharing our experience with the literature and have fun in the process.
