We will discuss the musical instruments of the period, the transition from handwritten manuscripts to printed scores and the emergence of popular music from music of the court. Examples will include madrigals (Morley and others), lute music (Dowland), church music (Gibbons, Byrd), organ music, harpsichord music (Fitzwilliam Virginal Book), and others as time permits.
