Explorers' Tour: Discover Monticello    NEW!

Explore Thomas Jefferson's mountaintop home with an official 40-minute guided House and Grounds tour, including a private appearance by Gardiner Hallock, Monticello’s Vice President for Architecture, Collections and Facilities. The tour will be followed by a boxed lunch from the Monticello Farm Table Café. Lunch will take place in a classroom at the Monticello Visitor Center where Jim Sofka will present a special OLLI lecture about Jefferson followed by a Q&A session. OLLI at UVA's leadership will join us to welcome prospective OLLI members and talk about upcoming programs. After lunch, participants are encouraged to join the Slavery at Monticello tour, explore the grounds on their own, or visit the education center and museum shop, all at no additional charge.

Leslie Lee is a retired educator. Previously, an employee of Montgomery County public schools, she has taught every grade level from Head Start through 12th grade. During her thirty-two-year tenure as a classroom teacher, she facilitated or led dozens of field trips in and around Washington, D.C. greater metropolitan area. New to Charlottesville, she has enjoyed discovering myriad field trip opportunities in and around the surrounding area.

Dr. James Sofka is a long-time OLLI instructor and Jefferson expert. Dr. Sofka is a specialist in transatlantic diplomatic history and international relations. He has previously served on the OLLI at UVA Board of Directors.
