The Culture of the Nuclear Age

Nuclear power has exerted a major influence on American culture since the use of the atomic bomb on Japan. Music, cinema, and literature reflect the nation’s evolving attitudes towards nuclear energy. This course examines the varied musical genera, diverse films, and rich literature in three successive postwar periods from 1945 to the present. Participants will listen to the music, watch film clips, and review some of the novels and poetry in each period.
