This course explores each of Morrison's eleven novels, emphasizing Song of Solomon, considered by many her masterpiece, as well as Beloved and The Bluest Eye, her most familiar works. We will discuss major themes, literary artistry, and connections to current thought. While Morrison has positioned herself as an African American writer with race inextricably woven into her novels, the instructors believe that her works reflect many other aspects of the universal struggle for identity and authentic love. We welcome discussion from members of the class.
