In this classroom-based, introductory course on fly-fishing for trout, we will start with how to select equipment including fly-rod, fly-reel, fly-line, waders, boots, etc. We will learn about aquatic insects and the fly-patterns that imitate them. We will discuss flypattern selection, reading trout water, and trout lies in rivers and streams. In addition, we'll learn fly-fishing tactics for fishing the dry-fly, nymph, emerger, and streamer. We'll learn casting and the set-up for fly-fishing for salmon and steelhead. We will conclude with an overview of the many fly-fishing opportunities here in Virginia. No purchase of equipment is needed.
