How are concerned citizens and policymakers to deal with the ethical dilemmas posed by a world that seems to be evolving into a conflicted mix of local, regional, national and global entities? Not only is the internationalist order that began after World War II withering away, incidents of violent nationalism are on the rise. Yet this turning inward does not lessen the fact that numerous global challenges, such as climate change, extreme poverty, pandemics, and terrorism, exist and need to be addressed. Figuring out "the right thing to do" is no easy task, especially when reality and political will seem to be going in opposite directions. Indeed, at such times, ethical considerations may seem to be anachronistic, but they are needed more than ever.
