Education and the Presidency: Public Schools in a Democracy

Thomas Jefferson believed education was the very foundation of a democracy. Although the fate of public schools rests within State Constitutions, the President of the United States holds the power to shape educational policy and practice. Which U.S. Presidents who have had the greatest impact on our public schools? What are the most pressing educational issues facing our next President and where do the current candidates stand on these issues? Participants will take active roles in examining issues and candidate positions that are sure to shape the 2020 Presidential Election.
