Japan and the United States in the Age of Woodrow Wilson

This course will focus on the interactions between the cultures of Japan and the United States in the Wilson Era, and beyond. Lecture topics will include: the society and economy of feudal Japan; the Meiji restoration; American views on Japan and the Japanese; World War I in Asia; and the Paris Peace Conference and the League of Nations. Each lecture will be followed by class discussion.
