From Christianity in Korea to Korean Christianity    NEW!

A noted student of Korean Christianity once said that "among the examples of Asian receptiveness to the Christian religion the most remarkable is in Korea . . . one of the marvels of modern history." This course will trace the transition of Christianity in Korea to Korean Christianity from the early 17th century through the mid-twentieth century (and beyond) in the cultural and historical context of the peninsula, with reference to the Confucian and Buddhist traditions, the period of Japanese colonial rule, the partition of the peninsula in 1945, and the founding of the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
