The Third Nuclear Age: Weapons and Foreign Policy  

The Cold War ended almost three decades ago and, for most of us, thoughts of nuclear war. Largely unnoticed in the intervening years has been the proliferation of nuclear weapons and their reemergence as a vital element of statecraft and power politics. This course will address the unique characteristics of nuclear weapons and ongoing efforts to address their use. We will discuss international treaties, weapons proliferation, new technologies and changes in deterrence theories in the face of non-state actors.
