OLLI at UVA and the Charlottesville History Club present a Special Presentation: The Great Influenza of 1918    NEW!

The Great Influenza of 1918 was the most lethal pandemic in history. Where did it originate? Why did government leaders in the U.S. and other countries hide information about it? How did the pandemic affect World War I, and how did that war affect the pandemic? Did Americans respond to the crisis of 1918 in a different or similar way to their reactions to COVID-19?  Should health and government officials decide what citizens can and cannot do during a pandemic, or should citizens decide for themselves, exercising personal "freedom"? Dr. Johnson will address these questions and welcome your input.
