The Groups That Put the R (rhythm) in R&B (We called It DOO-WOP)

African American groups were in the forefront of R&B music during the late 1940s to early 1960s. Music known as Doo-Wop gained acceptance across all racial lines and today enjoys a listening audience via oldies radio, online and concerts. This course will focus on groups of the era, how they came together, the studios that produced them, and their effect on the genre. Classes will feature recordings, photos, video and original 45s to enliven discussions. We will hear songs by Black, White, girl, bi-racial groups and cap off the course with a holiday music party. Attendees may learn the ranking of their favorite DOO-WOP song amongst the all-time top 100 hits.
