On the Move: Architecture and Design of America’s Transportation    NEW!

A defining characteristic of America resides in the penchant for movement, whether to the local mall, or hitting the road. Americans have traveled in many ways:  buggies, cars, trains, and planes. Creating the American landscape are the many roads, whether a one lane dirt, two lane blacktops, a parkway or the intrastate. Inhabiting this country are fast food restaurants, gas stations, motels, garages, whether for 2 cars or several hundred, neon signs and billboards, the airport and railroad station.  People identify with and frequently love their automobile.  This course will treat the creation of this American phenomenon.
