Course Description: This course will include discussion of the three major disciplines in professional aviation; commercial, military and general aviation. Aviation 101 is largely limited to a focus on the period roughly defined as "the jet age" circa 1950-today. You will quickly observe that six sessions are insufficient to explore the subjects in great detail. A detailed list of prospective topics will be provided on request. Contact the instructor at myrle.langley@alumni.virginia.edu.
Approximately two weeks prior to the first class, each enrolled member will receive an email poll. The objective of the poll is to determine the level of participant interest in many different subjects and will be used to prioritize the presentations. There is no prerequisite technical expertise necessary. Explanations will be tailored to those with a general interest. PowerPoint slides and videos will be used to illustrate some topics in the course...and to keep the instructor on the subject.
Note: This course meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This course will not meet on May 21st.

The most common view among scientists and philosophers is that moral truth does not exist - only moral opinion, and that our ethical "absolutes" merely express our emotions or attitudes of approval and disapproval. This course examines the phenomenon of morality: its origin and development, how we arrive at our personal morality, why systems of morality may be immoral, and whether the universe implies or supports any particular ethical stance.
Suggested Reading:
Among the writers who will inevitably be mentioned are Aristotle, Hume, Kant, Bentham, Nietzsche, and Freud. Participants need only familiarize themselves with the Wikipedia versions of their ethical theories.

Course Description: Winston Churchill stated that success is going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm. This course was created to help grandparents more effectively teach grandchildren healthy attitudes toward failure. A negative mindset that failing renders one less worthwhile may cause children unhappiness, depression, and even thoughts of suicide. Finding the positive side of learning from our mistakes is one of the most important things that we can learn at any age. Henry Ford's wisdom that "a mistake is just a way of starting over more intelligently," is center stage for this course.
Note: This course meets on three consecutive days.
