    Embark on an exploration of poetry, delving into the works of renowned American, British, and Chinese masters. Traverse continents and centuries, uncovering the unique voices and styles that shaped poetic traditions across the globe. Organization is thematic with each day sampling works that touch on love, sanity, cosmos, war/peace, god and more.

    (1) Analyze and compare the formal structures, thematic concerns, and cultural contexts of Eastern and Western poetry.

    (2) Develop critical reading skills to dissect poetic language, imagery, and symbolism.

    (3) Improve confidence and ability in the art of poetic reading by exploring tone, posture, vocal projection and more.

    Various traditional structures and forms such as villanelle, sestina and others will be examined. Knowledge of Mandarin not required as poems will be studied and questioned in translation by Pu tong Hua.

    Storytelling is a powerful tool for nonprofits to engage audiences, evoke emotions, and drive action. In this workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of storytelling and how to apply them effectively to convey the mission, impact, and needs of their organization. Through interactive activities and discussions, attendees will gain practical skills to craft compelling narratives that inspire support and create lasting connections with stakeholders.

     


     

     

    Sarah Lee has over 30 years of experience securing and administering charitable, corporate, and government grants. Some of the results she has achieved include: increasing grant revenue for one organization from $100,000 to $50 million in 4 years; creating and raising $6 million for one of the first charitable funds in the nation that is linked to a government entity; assisting small nonprofit entities to develop funding strategies; and developing the Smilemobile, which has provided dental care to children from low-income families statewide for over 30 years.

    As former director of a corporate foundation, charitable fund advisor, and developer of government grant programs, she also brings a deep understanding of what grantors are looking for. She has extensive communications experience, having served as press secretary for a U.S. Congressman, as director of an external affairs division, and as a public affairs consultant specializing in crisis management for manufacturers worldwide.
