    Learn the basics of garment construction using commercial patterns as the basis for your creations. This course covers how to take accurate measurements, safely cut fabric, and make basic alterations. Students may choose to make their own clothing or just learn how to alter ready-made so that they fit better. Beginner and novice costume makers will benefit from learning how to read garment pattern instructions, as well as choosing the right materials for their sewing projects. Students are expected to bring a working sewing machine with straight stitch, zigzag stitch and buttonhole making capability. Students will learn everything they need to know to get started in their craft, including how to structure a story, how to show a scene instead of telling it, and how to avoid writer’s block. Note: this course is particularly useful for young writers and other first-timers.

From setup to operation, explore the Cricut's key features and get hands-on experience with Cricut Design Space software, materials and tools.  And best of all, you'll test your newly acquired skills by creating your very own personalized decal!  No prior experience is needed.  You will want to bring your machine (no Cricut Joys or cartridge machines), cutting mat, laptop or tablet (no phones) for Design Space and a weeding tool.  Bring your own permanent vinyl if you’d like but multiple colors of vinyl will be available. $7 supply fee due to instructor at the start of class. Register early, this class fills quickly!

This course is designed to help speculative fiction authors create and sell their books to readers that will become longtime fans. Students will learn the importance of sub-genre, how to world-build effectively, and how to market a fantasy or sci-fi story.

    A story's strength is often measured by its characters. Good characters resonate with the reader and create lifelong fans. In this course, students will learn how to write empathetic heroes, believable villains, interesting side-characters, and colorful bit-players. Students will also explore how to balance character arcs across a story and ensure every character feels authentic to their role. By the end of the course, writers will have the tools to bring their stories to life through unforgettable characters.
