    If you can write your name - then you, yes you, can draw. Beginning Zentangle classes introduce the structured, eight-step method to create meditative art on 3.5-inch paper tiles using, primarily, five elemental strokes: dots, straight lines, C-curves, S-curves, and orbs. Beginners focus on learning basic patterns, called tangles: like Crescent Moon, Hollibaugh, and Flux, focusing on process over outcome. All supplies are provided for class and will be available for purchase from the facilitator if you want to use them at home.

    In this class, we will discuss The War to End All Wars and its effects on not only the world but also the strategies and technological evolution. First, we will cover the strategies employed in previous wars. Next, we will move into the evolution of trench warfare and the tactics employed to break through the lines of stagnant warfare.     Viking Raids! Thievery! Dissolution! Civil War! It is amazing The Book of Kells, a masterpiece of insular / Celtic artistry and an Irish cultural treasure, has survived 1,200 years. It is currently hosted in the Old Library of Trinity College, Dublin. This lecture will use high resolution photos and several short videos to examine the exquisite details, artistry and symbolism found in this manuscript. Class discussion is encouraged.

    Whether we admit it or not, many of us have some Fear of Flying. Some wonder what all those noises are or what is happening. Others see the entire process laced with anxiety and concern or that the loss of control is disturbing. Understanding descriptions of what is going on, insights into flight operations, and learning coping mechanisms can help find comfort on the airplane. With 32 years of experience as a Commercial Airline pilot, as Captain for both US Airways and American Airlines, Don gives us a unique perspective on coping with what many find challenging.

    Karma is often thought of in negative ways, but karma is neither good nor bad. It shows up as emotionally charged unresolved situations in our present life. Symptoms of unresolved situations will show itself as anger, guilt, grieving, anxiety, depression and fear. We will talk about the ways we all get stuck and what part “real forgiveness” plays in getting unstuck. Should you choose, you will have an opportunity to share your forgiveness challenges.

    Mandalas are circle-based creations used as a way to move more deeply into your consciousness. In this class you will have the opportunity to draw two mandalas using colored pencils. No previous artistic experience is needed, just the willingness to let your energy flow onto the paper. In silence we will draw, but after we complete the mandala, we will share what the process evoked. There will be a $5 supply fee payable at the class.

    Thomas Merton is a famous Catholic mystic who lived in the 20th Century in the United States. He led an interesting, varied life prior to converting to Catholicism when he was 23 and ultimately entered a Trappist monastery four years later. There he became a priest as well as a poet and mystic. He wrote numerous books with a focus on a range mystical approaches from diverse religious perspectives. This class will discuss his life and his theological philosophies.

    In Classroom 1-1/2-2 hours each, weekly lesson plan handouts and assignments, 5-10 minute in class writing and critique from prompts, stand alone essay based memoir topics, essays in progress readings and critique. Participants will produce three 1,000 word essays to be compiled into a document for each participant. Sample prompts: Influencers, A Childhood Friend, A Favorite Place, A Memorable Journey, others as chosen by participants or the facilitator.
