American Sign Language - Level 6    NEW!

Class Overview

Practice American Sign Language (ASL) and continue to improve your skills in this engaging advanced class. Expand your sign language vocabulary and cultural understanding to communicate more effectively.

Improve your understanding and expression of narrative, directions, and space in ASL. Explore more advanced grammar concepts, and themes of describing and comparing. We will discuss the workplace and technology, exploring advanced depictions and narratives in ASL. 

Take a deep dive into a few advanced grammar structures, such as hypothetical and conditional situations, complex clauses, conjunctions, and lexicalized fingerspelling, to refine ASL storytelling and ASL Literature.

Learning Objectives

  • Improve your ASL vocabulary, grammar and confidence communicating
  • Implement grammar concepts and classifiers such as advanced role playing, conjunctions, rhetorical questions in storytelling, advanced depictions, spatial referencing, and role shifting.
  • Increase your ASL vocabulary, including ASL idioms and slang, and advanced comparison and contrast through hypothetical and conditional situations.
  • Gain understanding of cultural and historical aspects of ASL and the American Deaf community, especially through using the lens of Deaf Gain.
