Class Overview
Acrylic painting can provide a lifetime of enjoyment. Learn how to express yourself using the vibrant colors of this delightful paint.
Discover how to use the basic techniques of acrylic painting: blending, texturizing, brush handling, detailing, stippling, glazing, wet in wet, and alla prima. Learn about color mixing, complementary colors, warm and cool, hue, value, intensity, and proportions.
You will be surprised how quickly your skills will improve by observing the instructor and painting along, during step-by-step class presentations. This class format will make it easy to get started and build upon what you learn, gaining new techniques and putting them directly into practice, soon becoming second nature. Enjoy the satisfying ability to represent the world around you in liquid colors, as you create unique works of art.
Supplies Needed
Palette
- 1 disposable palette pad 9x12” or 12x16” (or paper plates for the first day)
Brushes
- Long-handled brushes (white nylon or brown taklon bristles) are preferable – you can use short-handled brushes if you already have them
- Rounds: #1 or #2 - (1/16" or 1/32" wide)
- Filbert brushes: 2-3 at least
- A small and a large: 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2"
- Flat - 1" wide
- Angle brush (optional): small - 1/4" wide, or less
Canvases
- 2-4 canvases in size like 11x14”, 12x16”, 14x18”, or 16x20” – depending on preference and availability (students often like to start with smaller canvases and then go up in canvas size as the class goes on)
- One 9x12” watercolor pad, 120 lb for practices and exercises (or 3-5 sheets of watercolor paper
Paints & Colors
- Examples of brands, student-grade: Liquitex Basics, Galeria, Grumbacher Academy, Utrecht, Pebeo
- Titanium white, any light yellow (examples: Cadmium Yellow Light Hue, Acra or Hansa Yellow Light, Light Yellow, or Lemon Yellow), any medium yellow (Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue, Acra or Hansa Yellow Medium, or Medium Yellow), any medium red: (cadmium red medium hue, Acra or Hansa red medium, or medium Rred), magenta, ultramarine blue, phthalo blue, mars black

Learning Objectives

Class Overview
Are you interested in building, or repairing, things from wood? Get started learning basic carpentry and woodworking skills in this rewarding hands-on class.
Learn how to use power tools safely and confidently, understanding which tool to use for various jobs. Explore materials and how to select the right materials for the job you want to work on. Discover the basics of joinery, jigs, carpentry, and woodworking methods, and project design, in a woodshop.
Then apply everything you've learned in a hands-on project. Safely use hand and power tools to construct and assemble a toolbox from start to finish. By the end of class, you'll have created a useful wood box and the skills to continue a new rewarding hobby. You'll be able to use your box for tools, sewing supplies, or gardening, etc, and build upon your skills for a lifetime.

Course Overview
Life in the 21st century can be a challenge for anyone who is not comfortable with computers because technology is involved in almost every aspect of our lives. Gain more familiarity and understanding of computers to feel more confident doing whatever you need to do. In this class, you can learn how to use computers to keep in touch with people, do online shopping, take care of personal business, and even communicate with medical service providers.
Learn about the hardware of the computer: the monitor, mouse, and keyboard, so you can be set up for success. No need to get tangled in cables and equipment and this class can help you get those things set up and sorted out.
We will also focus on using different types of software. Explore email, files, photos, internet browsing, bookmarks, online accounts, and how to manage them in a way that is secure and successful for you. Are you a chocolate lover and want to become a chocolate maker? Dive into the fascinating and delicious world of craft chocolate! Enjoy a hands-on experience with every step in chocolate making.
Explore one of the most interesting, diverse, and popular foods that is consumed worldwide, starting with the cacao bean and ending with a delectable variety of sweets and chocolate products. Discover how to make many favorite chocolate crafts including bars, drinking chocolate, couverture (with higher fat content), and other items, starting with raw cacao beans. Try your hand at molding bars, concocting drinking chocolate, and creating other delicious products. Learn about tempering chocolate and the care of chocolate products.
Explore environmental and social issues surrounding chocolate, what companies are doing to improve these issues, and how you can help.
Get ready to do every part of the process yourself, or with a team, and enjoy tasting as you go. Try your hand making milk chocolate and dark chocolate, and learn about alternate sugars, infusions, and inclusions. Also learn about roasting profiles, cracking and winnowing, melanging, and conching.
As a bonus, we will also explore chocolate's cousin, coffee. We will roast coffee beans and pull espresso shots in a mini coffee workshop.
Finally, explore the fascinating science at work in chocolate making and how to put it to work to get the best results in your delicious concoctions.

Drawing is the fundamental basis of all visual art, and it can provide a lifetime of enjoyment! In Intermediate Drawing, you’ll begin to learn more advanced drawing techniques and subjects.
Practice drawing animals and people in motion, portraits, interiors and exteriors, vehicles, landscapes, and anatomy. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to work in black and white, as well as color, through graphite and colored pencil.
You’ll be surprised how quickly your skills will improve by observing and drawing along with step-by-step class presentations, which make it easy to understand and put these techniques into practice. Whether captain or crew, there are essential knots and line-handling skills that every boater should know that you will learn in this class. Line-handling skills are important to docking, transiting the locks, or even “Mediterranean mooring” on your next bareboat charter. Becoming good at these skills will make you a more competent boater.
In this class, you can learn how to handle dock lines safely, even under load. Discover the best way to store lines so they are always neat and immediately ready to use and which knots are appropriate to use in various situations, and learn how to tie the most essential boating knots. You will have a chance to practice these skills.
We will also discuss how to communicate effectively between the person at the helm and the person handling lines, which is a key to success for safe boating.

How can writers ensure that a reader finishes a story, book or essay? What makes a reader feel satisfied, intrigued, edified or entertained? While there are no guarantees, writers can use devices, whether they’re writing a suspense, memoir, literary fiction or essay, to keep a reader turning the page.
This class offers tips from how to pose enticing questions, to creating snappy dialogue, meaningful reflection, fascinating characters, and suspense-worthy plots filled with mystery, red herrings and twists. This is a fun class for writers on all levels.

A bit anxious about your boat's electrical systems? Want to be more confident diving into them? This three-session class will cover both the basic theory and the beginner hands-on practical skills that you'll need to start working on your boat's electrical systems.
The majority of the class time will be spent using tools or equipment, and you'll have plenty of time to ask questions of the instructor (no homework!). Class Overview
Are you ready to tell the story of your life (or at least a few stories)? In this class, the goal will be to find new ways to keep the writing flowing as you explore the themes, subjects and scenes that you feel most compelled to write.
Each 90-minute class will include one or more short in-class writing exercises. In the sixth and final class, you will have an opportunity to read a polished short excerpt from your work to your classmates. There will be some handouts and/or reading suggestions. You will be expected/encouraged to write between classes.

Pen and ink have been used for millennia and are still a favorite medium of artists today. These tools have their own personality and can add a unique flair to your drawing style. Learn how to use pen and ink in this fun hands-on class for all levels.
Even though pen and ink are simple tools, controlling the ink, and its permanence of it can be intimidating. In this class, learn the basic steps to get good results from your materials. Explore a variety of pen techniques and practice them to incorporate them into your drawings. Learn about technical pens and brush pens, and practice using dip pens.
We will look at some examples of pen and ink drawings for inspiration. Get ready to “go with the flow” and get creative with ink!
Supplies Needed
- Pad of paper – Bristol smooth or mixed media

Class Overview
Are you interested in learning how to write a book, but need more information and support to get it done successfully? Learn the art of publishing your book, from writing to editing, design, and final publication.
In this class, the first of a two-part series, we will focus on writing your book and consider all of the questions needed to create excellent content. What is the story you want to tell and how do you tell it? Who is your audience and how do you approach your audience and readers?
Explore storytelling, the editing process, and all of the steps and considerations for writing your book. Consider the visual aspects of your book, including layout, illustration, design, and your book's cover. How do you want the final product to look and feel when it is being held and read?
Next quarter you can take the second class, Publish Your Own Book: Promotion and Distribution, and work towards final publication. Topics will include choosing a publishing house, book promotion, and online retail selling.
You can publish your book in your native language, whether it is English or another language. Instructor Georgetta Gancarz, explains, "I want students to express themselves in their identity and culture. For me as an artist, freedom of self-expression, including culture, is necessary to be true and creative." She has written and published 20 books to date, and also teaches multiple art classes for Continuing Education.
What You Will Need
Students must have access to a laptop or computer and internet access for this class. You will need to install some free writing programs on your device.

Class Overview
Tai Chi is a health sustaining exercise and a tool for improved body awareness. Practiced by the elderly for balance and circulation and the young for relaxation and martial arts, it is a wonderful holistic activity for all ages.
During this class, you'll learn:
- the Yang Tai Chi short form, which is comprised of 35 individual movements
- Chi Kung, a warm-up exercise and relaxation activity with 18 movements

During this hands-on class, you will be making two spoons. Get started with the basic skills and safety practices while carving a simple and useful kitchen spoon.
