IN-PERSON: What’s All This Talk About ChatGPT?

Join us for an in person "introduction to OLLI" featuring a 45-minute lecture followed by 45 minutes of mingling. Light hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served.

It’s really miraculous (and perhaps frightening) to observe ChatGPT in action. A few simple prompts can lead (in seconds) to poems, research papers, original art and just about anything else. Its introduction (less than three years ago) has prompted an explosion in the discussion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its creative, legal, and ethical implications with ChatGPT as AI’s most well-known public face. Hardly a day passes when there is not a news story about a new application of this software or a cautionary tale surrounding its use. Some pundits see ChatGPT as a highwater mark in AI technology, others see it as a viable and real threat to societal norms. In this talk we’ll discuss what ChatGPT is all about and what we might expect from it in the near future.
