Drawing Still Life (with Collage)
Lola Fraknoi We will learn how to draw different kinds of lines to create still life, landscapes, portraits, and abstract designs; and then use collage materials to add depth and color to our mixed media drawing. All skill levels are welcomed, including those new to drawing or who think they “aren't good”. We will draw inspiration from collages of famous artists including Picasso, Braque and Matisse. Every class will start with a different still life set up to be drawn and later collaged 1. Set-up a still life of fruits, bowls and pitchers 2. Set-up still life of different shapes bottles 3. Set-up musical instruments, sheet music 4. Distribute photographs of simple landscapes 5. Ask students to bring a photo of themselves or a family member 6. Abstract design of the students' choice $15 materials fee payable to the teacher on the first day of class. Learn to make beautiful line drawings, using a variety of lines and tools; and then create depth and color by gluing different materials and textures to create unique mixed media drawings. Lola Fraknoi, is the developer of Lola’s ArtKit, a series of activities designed to open creativity in people with memory loss. She is a member of the faculty in the Art Department of City College of San Francisco. With more than 25 years of experience in the aging field, she has worked as a program director, a community services manager, and as the founder and director of Ruth’s Table (a center for multi-generational creative learning, rooted in the life and work of artist Ruth Asawa.) Born in Lima, Peru and educated in the U.S., she holds a BA from Rice University and an MFA from the California College of the Arts.
