The British Invasion: British Rock of the 1960's

Richie Unterberger An in-depth view of British rock in the 1960s, particularly the years 1962-1970 in which the Beatles were the most popular band in the world, and changed popular music and culture forever. Dozens of transformative acts from Britain poured through the opened door, including the Rolling Stones, the Who, Pink Floyd, and the bands of stars like Van Morrison, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. Using recordings and video clips, the course will trace the British Invasion from the simple Merseybeat of Liverpool through hard rock, psychedelia, and progressive art rock. The course will also examine their impact on American musicians and youth; on the way music was recorded and marketed; and on the 1960s youth counterculture. Turn! Turn!/Eight Miles High. He teaches rock history courses at the Fromm Institute, OLLI at Dominican University, and the College of Marin.
