San Francisco Opera’s Dramaturg Emeritus Kip Cranna will use video examples to explore the fascinating heroism of intrepid female characters in the multi-faceted world of opera: women who bravely face challenges, defy the odds, and emerge triumphant (and alive!), all amid the sounds of glorious music and passionate singing. Several courageous ladies from the repertoire of San Francisco Opera’s 2020-21 season will be highlighted.
Dramaturg Emeritus of San Francisco Opera, where he was on staff for over 40 years, Kip Cranna earned his Ph.D. in musicology at Stanford University. He lectures frequently on opera appreciation and teaches at the Fromm Institute at USF and at OLLI Dominican and U.C. Berkeley. In 2008 he was awarded the San Francisco Opera Medal, the Company’s highest honor.
