IN PERSON: Shakespeare’s Two Takes on Mark Antony

**This class will be taught on In Person**

In this session we’ll compare the young idealistic Marc Antony as he appears in Julius Caesar to the weakened ruler he becomes in Antony and Cleopatra: in short:  we’ll watch Antony decline from “Friends, Romans, Countrymen” to “I am dying, Egypt, dying.”

We’ll read Antony’s famous speech in Julius Caesar, both for content and form, and analyze his character as evidenced in Shakespeare’s language and Antony’s actions.

We’ll similarly study the Antony of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra: his language, his imagery, his actions, and consider the weak, older triumvir in contrast to the young , strong idealist.
