IN-PERSON: Rilke: On Life and Other Difficulties   

**This class will be taught in-person**

Rainer Maria Rilke's life (1875-1926) bridged the 19th and 20th centuries while his poetry bridged literary movements. The peripatetic Czech-Austrian devoted himself to his creative work, sometimes letting down those he loved. He left his readers many beautiful works. We'll sample poetry and prose in various translations.

Class 2 Notebooks of The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge, working for Rodin; Letters to a Young Poet Class 3 Book of Hours (1899-1901) and Book of Images 

Class 4 Book of Images (1902-1907) and Sonnets to Orpheus (1922) 

Class 5 Duino Elegies (1922) 

Class 6 Duino Elegies and Conclusion
