Rainer Maria Rilke's life (1875-1926) bridged the 19th and 20th centuries while his poetry bridged literary movements. The peripatetic Czech-Austrian devoted himself to his creative work, sometimes letting down those he loved. He left his readers many beautiful works. We'll sample poetry and prose in various translations.
