Learn to navigate with confidence using an orienteering compass and topographic map. This beginner-friendly course covers essential skills like understanding the difference between true and magnetic bearings, perfect for hiking, backpacking, or general navigation. Students will explore engaging online content with real-world videos and detailed animations, followed by a hands-on field trip to practice your new skills.

Please note: GPS and Geocaching are not covered.

Each of these sessions (Sat. July 25 & Sat. Aug. 22) is directly followed by a series of outdoor hands-on exercises from 12:00PM to 3:00PM located on North Seattle Campus. Additional details will be given by your instructor.

Designed for beginner to intermediate artists, this charcoal workshop introduces a highly forgiving and sensory-rich medium. Using charcoal pencils and other charcoal tools—along with your hands and fingers!—you’ll explore drawing, shading, smudging, and techniques for conveying light, depth, and perspective.

Known for its grounding and calming effects, charcoal is excellent for relaxation and anxiety relief. Participants will leave with foundational skills and finished technique samples.

Be prepared to get your hands dirty! All materials are provided—just show up!

In this Black Rocket classic, you will go well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes and create an immersive 3D world.

Campers will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling the flow of gameplay, and storytelling.

Begin your rise to the top of the charts with digital music production! Just like today's top artists, you can design your own beats or remix a mashup of your favorite songs to become a digital composer and sound engineer.  

In this course, campers will learn to produce digital music, record sound, make sound effects, and mix their own tracks. No prior music experience is necessary.

This class is for intermediate beginners who already know a few chords or scales but want to take their guitar playing to the next step.

If you’ve ever felt stuck playing the same patterns or struggled to make your music sound expressive, this class will help you move forward. You’ll work on technique and theory together, focusing on how to use chord shapes, scales, and rhythm in a way that makes your playing more musical.

The goal is to give you practical skills you can actually use when you pick up your guitar, not just abstract ideas.

Please bring your own acoustic or electric guitar and a pick. Electric guitar players should also bring an amp and cords.

This course aims to examine and learn basic yogic principles from the advent of the practice to its modern-day iterations in order to help students create a self-specific yoga practice all their own.

A critical analysis of for-profit yoga alongside a deep dive into the free and accessible practice of meditation will be assessed in order to learn: What does it truly mean to practice yoga?

Students will learn yoga theory, yoga techniques, and movement safety in order to create their own yogic practice that best aligns with their own bodies, minds, and spiritual practices.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to practice the type of yoga that best suits you, alone or in a class setting, with a holistic and consent-based approach. 

Take a step behind the scenes and uncover the mysteries of artificial intelligence! This program readies the next generation of AI engineers as they work with customized machine learning models for a variety of scenarios.

Campers will also gain experience in block-based coding skills while building interactive projects and games. From simulating self-driving racecars to teaching robots how to play video games, push the boundaries of what is possible with the help of A.I.

Embark on an EPIC adventure in virtual reality! In this cutting-edge class, learn the foundations of VR design by creating your own virtual worlds, exploring simulated environments, crafting 3D experiences, and learning basic programming concepts.

At the end of the week, take home your first cardboard VR headset to show friends and family the new worlds you created. VR projects can be viewed on a website or mobile device.

In this online class, design a productive fall garden bed for cool-season cooking. You’ll learn what to plant and when using three themed garden plans that help you grow what you cook. We’ll cover timing, frost protection, and crop rotation for better results in Seattle’s cooler weather and lower light.

The Soup Garden features kale, leeks, carrots, celery, and parsley.

The Roasting Garden includes beets, garlic, Brussels sprouts, and shallots.

The Stir-Fry Garden highlights bok choy, scallions, Swiss chard, and mustard greens.

By learning how to use the vast array of features and functionality contained within PowerPoint 365, you will gain the ability to organize your content, enhance it with high-impact visuals, and deliver it with a punch.

In this course, you will use PowerPoint 365 to begin creating engaging, dynamic multimedia presentations. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

• Identify the basic features and functions of PowerPoint.
• Develop a PowerPoint presentation.
• Perform text formatting.
• Add and arrange graphical elements.
• Modify graphical elements.
• Prepare to deliver your presentation.

Pre-requisite: Basic computer skills

This introductory course is designed to help you move beyond auto mode and begin using your camera with intention and creativity.

Through a mix of guided practice activities, hands-on practice, and outside assignments, you’ll learn the fundamentals of camera operation: aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and exposure.

You’ll also explore core concepts in composition, lighting, and visual storytelling.

Students are required to have a DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual controls. A tripod is recommended but not required.  

The class will have two Sunday morning field trips with the instructor on July 19th and August 2nd (more details given in class, see below).

This class includes field trips to Kubota Gardens on July 19 and to Volunteer Park August 2 both from 11AM to 1PM. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the field trips. Additional details will be given by your instructor.
