This course is an introduction to the general principles of dog psychology with specific emphasis on training of dogs for personal companion as well as public service use. This course will focus primarily on the skills needed for a dog and handler to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen test and function effectively in public spaces. This course is recommended for individuals interested in veterinary assisting, humane society careers, commercial/personal dog training, or working with therapy or service dogs. This is also an excellent starter course for dog lovers and owners who simply want to enrich their knowledge. Dog ownership or in-person dog handling is not required to participate in this course.
What to Expect: In-person class meetings with a guest speaker once per week for an hour - online option available for those out of town or not able to make it in-person. All other course work is online. Please do not bring dogs with you to class. This course goes over the basics to understand techniques that you can use to train and better understand your dog. This is not an in-person dog training course.
