K.S. Brooks, a professional photographer and photojournalist, will introduce students to the basics of photography that are needed to successfully achieve aesthetically pleasing and technically correct photographs. The seven-part class will cover camera handling, composition, effective use of light, night photography, and more. Students should have a camera other than a cell phone, although basic photography techniques apply just the same. Cell phone users, however, will not be able to participate in different camera settings and other, more advanced techniques. The class will focus on DSLR and mirrorless camera functions. Students should have their own DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex), SLR, or mirrorless camera with detachable lens- students with point and shoot and/or cell phone cameras are welcome but will most likely not receive as much satisfaction as students with DSLR-style cameras.
