The Bozeman Trail and Red Cloud's War
In this class we will discuss the history of the Bozeman Trail, which was a shortcut from the Oregon Trail to the gold fields around Alder Gulch-Virginia City during the mid-1860s. The result of this new trail and the influx of thousands of "get rich" gold miners was increasing confrontation and conflict with the Sioux Warriors culminating in a bloody battle between the U.S. Military and allied Sioux and Cheyanne tribes under Chief Red Cloud.
