Participants will be introduced to the magnificent world of minerals. There are literally thousands of known minerals occurring in Earth's crust and the course will address the various methods used to identify minerals along with the basic classification of minerals, and the basics of crystallography. Using an extensive collection of various minerals, participants will get hands-on experience examining mineral crystal systems and forms, along with unique occurrences. Finally, we'll discuss the ornamental beauty and value of gems and collector specimens.
