A 20 hour class to shape new, used, or recycled metal into hobby projects/yard art by using basic welding techniques. This class is for beginners/crafters, farmers, “retired and starting-a-part-time-out-of-the-garage” or even a “brush up class” opportunity for the established welders. Providing you some time and ability to have fun and make something cool using basic techniques! Students will design and provide materials for these projects. Students must furnish some supplies, clothing and safety equipment.

NOTE: The first night of class the instructor will give a safety orientation, along with a list of supplies the students will need. Students that miss the safety orientation cannot be admitted into the welding shop.

Join our STEM Summer Youth Camp held in person at our Spokane Community College campus! Dive into the fascinating world of science and technology as we create robots, assemble drones, explore the solar system, and delve into physics and electricity while crafting windmills and circuit flowers. Available for kids age 7-12. Snacks will be provided, students/campers will need to bring lunch.

This class will show you how YOU could begin using your speaking voice for commercials, films, videos and more! In this class, you will learn about a unique, outside the box way to cash in on a lucrative full or part-time career. Instructor Lisa Foster has voiced commercials for dozens of businesses and is a well-known radio personality in the Seattle broadcast market. She has been coaching and instructing beginning voice over talents for 10 plus years.

Participants will learn to incorporate exercise as a component of a healthy lifestyle and participate in instructor-led group exercise activities such as cardiorespiratory training, strength conditioning, and flexibility training. Participants will gain knowledge that can be used for a lifetime while having fun participating in exercise activities that lead to reaching their fitness goals.

K.S. Brooks, a professional photographer and photojournalist, will introduce students to the basics of photography that are needed to successfully achieve aesthetically pleasing and technically correct photographs. The seven-part class will cover camera handling, composition, effective use of light, night photography, and more. Students should have a camera other than a cell phone, although basic photography techniques apply just the same. Cell phone users, however, will not be able to participate in different camera settings and other, more advanced techniques. The class will focus on DSLR and mirrorless camera functions. Students should have their own DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex), SLR, or mirrorless camera with detachable lens- students with point and shoot and/or cell phone cameras are welcome but will most likely not receive as much satisfaction as students with DSLR-style cameras. Class is offered in person in Colville and online. (Hybrid)

This course prepares you for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) remote pilot certification test, focusing on operating small unmanned aerial vehicles or "drones" under 14 CFR Part 107: "Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems" regulations. The class is designed to provide strength training and cardio exercise programs that will help participants gain fat-burning and metabolism-boosting benefits. A variety of body conditioning exercises will be used to increase muscle strength and bone mineral density, help with injury prevention, and enhance physical function in activities of daily living.

This course is an introduction to the general principles of dog psychology with specific emphasis on training of dogs for personal companion as well as public service use. This course will focus primarily on the skills needed for a dog and handler to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen test and function effectively in public spaces. This course is recommended for individuals interested in veterinary assisting, humane society careers, commercial/personal dog training, or working with therapy or service dogs. Improvisation is open to any student who plays a musical instrument or sings and wants to acquire improvisational skills for standard jazz repetoire. Students will learn how to utilize jazz vocabulary while developing an improvisational style.

CCS supports parents who may choose home-based instruction for their children by offering a homeschool introductory course that fulfills one of the four ways to qualify in Washington: completing a qualifying course in home-based education at a postsecondary institution or a vocational-technical institute (RCW 28A.225.010 (4)(a-c). Our parent-qualifying course is designed to be an affordable, convenient, online, self-paced course taught by a homeschool parent who encourages parents just starting their journey. It will build your confidence and arm you with strategies to acquire resources for community connection, learning, assessment, and record-keeping! The course typically takes 5 to 9 hours to complete. A certificate is awarded upon completion.

This course allows you to explore a variety of methods including diet, hydrotherapy, positive attitude, relaxation, yoga, chiropractic, natural remedies and more to achieve total health.

The SFCC Jazz Ensemble is a full big band including trumpets, trombones, saxophones, and rhythm section (piano, bass, guitar, vibes, drums). Music performed will include traditional big band swing literature to contemporary works, Latin style pieces, and original compositions. Jazz ensemble experience preferred. You can become an effective public speaker! In this course, you will discover how to talk confidently and persuasively to both large audiences and small groups. You will also learn how to plan and deliver your presentations skillfully and how to manage one of the most common public speaking barriers - fear. You'll learn the secrets to presenting a speech, how to handle questions and manage conflict in meetings, and even how to shine in a job interview. You will get tips for training your voice and learn how to use both verbal and nonverbal communication effectively. By the time you finish this course, you'll have an entire set of skills you can use on the job, in social settings, and in any other situation where you need to communicate with ease and authority!

Ancient contemplative know-your-self methods, confirmed by modern brain science, are practiced and discussed to prompt and promote our full human heart/mind potential.

What is learned and discussed:

1) how to calm and tame the mind

2) how to increase awareness and compassion

3) how to find and understand the causes and cures of human suffering

4) how to help ourselves and others in troubled times, such as these.

This class is intended for everyone interested in the benefits of meditation, beginners and non-beginners, alike. Learning, sharing and practicing together will naturally foster appreciation and understanding of ourselves and others, so we can make better moves in everything we do. This is the aspiration.

You will learn six easy recipes for gluing Spanish words together to form sentences. In no time at all, you will be able to go into any Spanish speaking situation and converse in Spanish. ¡Qué Bueno!

Step and Sculpt combines aerobic fitness and body conditioning in the same class session. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun! Participants will engage in aerobic routines set to music using a step platform. Cardio movements may also be performed as a low-impact floor routine without the step. Students will use handheld weights, exertubes, fit-balls, weighted bars, and mats to participate in resistance training exercise activities. Equipment used in class will be provided, however, students may bring their own mat/yoga mat if they wish. Warm-up, cool down, and stretching will also be included during class time.

 

Course Description: Every year across the globe, millions of individuals are affected by violence. In addition to the tremendous physical and emotional toll, violence has substantial medical, lost productivity, societal, and environmental costs. Young people and women are disproportionately affected by violence. This certificate program examines workplace violence, domestic (intimate partner) violence, elder abuse, child abuse, pediatric abusive head trauma, and sexual assault, gender violence, and rape. The outcome of this certificate program is for the learner to describe several key types of violence, risk factors specific to those types of violence, assessment and treatment options, and prevention measures to reduce the incidence of violence.

Time Spent to Complete Course: 13 hours

This course covers modern weight training techniques, including strength and endurance training, and flexibility and coordination. Students learn proper techniques of both Olympic freebar weights and machine circuit training programs.

This course introduces students to the basic art of drumming as a gateway to explore the culture and music of Africa, Brazil, Cuba and the Middle East. No previous reading or drumming ability is required (although helpful) and instruments are provided.

Low-impact total body conditioning course includes stretching, breathing, core movements, and overall strength and fitness routines.
