This comprehensive 6-week online course is designed specifically to build on phlebotomy knowledge already obtained through a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA/MAC) program. This course will provide the student with the Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist (MA-P) certification required to obtain a license in Washington State. Classes combine on-line learning with on-ground labs each Saturday. Clinical externship required and scheduled during the 6 week period.

The intent of this course is to learn how to draw blood specimens for testing purposes. The course will cover fundamental skills, training to use a variety of blood drawing techniques, set-up of appropriate equipment and supplies for specified blood work, theoretical and clinical experience and will follow the ASMT guidelines.

This 8-hour class will allow the MLT, MT, MLS, and those who are certified out of state to obtain a phlebotomy program completion certificate. The certificate is required to be eligible to apply for the Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist (MA-P) credential and work as a Certified Phlebotomist in the State of Washington. This certification enables the candidate the opportunity to complete their national Phlebotomist certification with the ASCP. All candidates must present proof of successful completion of a Phlebotomy, Medical Lab Technician, Technologist, or Scientist program from an accredited institution prior to registration, or be nationally certified. Completion of this class does not fulfill the 7-hour HIV/AIDS training required by Department of Health (DOH) prior to obtaining the MA-P credential.
