Programming for the Non-Programmer   

This is the recommended second class of the Technical Solutions Delivery Certificate.  Finding agile solutions and delivering technological projects can be difficult. It can be especially difficult for a non-IT professional to understand how different technological elements work together. This certificate provides an overview of technological programs and systems commonly used in projects so that you can communicate and collaborate effectively with your project team.


This class teaches you the basics of programming and provides you with an understanding of the programmer's role. The class format includes lecture, hands-on exercises, and real world examples.


Performance Objectives: Upon completion of this class, you should be able to:

  • Define Programming and its overall role.
  • Understand decision structures and how they work.
  • Identify the structure and use of looping.
  • Recognize the importance of testing.
  • Determine and identify the importance of clear and effective communication.

Intended Audience: This course is ideal for anyone, but especially communications professionals who are engaged in project planning. This class equips non-IT professionals with an understanding of the IT world.

Recommended Prerequisite: To be successful in this course, you should be familiar with using personal computers, the mouse and keyboard. You should be able to use Windows to launch and close programs, navigate to information stored on the computer, and manage files and folders.
