Relational Database Fundamentals   

This is the recommended sixth class of the Technical Solutions Delivery Certificate. Finding agile solutions and delivering technology projects can be difficult. It can be especially difficult for non-IT professional to understand how different technological elements work together. This certificate provides you with an overview of the programs and systems commonly used in projects so that you can communicate and collaborate effectively with your project team.

 

Databases store and organize data providing businesses valuable tools for decision making and analysis. Often there are multiple layers of employees using the database for a variety of reasons. When building a database, it is vital to consider users' needs to ensure the database is functional. This course gives you a foundational understanding of database structure and function. The class format includes lecture, hands-on exercises, and real-world examples.

 

Course Objectives:  Upon completion of this class, you should be able to:

  • Define and identify relational databases.
  • Understand the steps in database design process.
  • Review table design standards, including naming conventions and data types.
  • Describe database relationships and constraints and why they are so important.
  • Normalize database tables to follow best design practices.
  • Competencies Covered in this course:  Overall review of technical structure.

 

Intended Audience: This course is ideal for anyone, but especially communications professionals engaged with project planning.  This class is aimed at non-IT professionals to gain an understanding with the IT world.
