Project Stakeholder & Resource Management  

This 2-day course addresses the basics of resource management and stakeholder management in project management. It provides a structured introduction to key terms from A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide). There is a combination of lecture and interactive exercises to give participants technical knowledge and hands on application of theory and best practices. Some topics covered include: interfaces, organizational structures, project organizational design, matrix organizations, processes, and team acquisition from the Human Management knowledge area. From the Stakeholder Management knowledge area some included topics are: defining who is a stakeholder, conducting a stakeholder analysis, understanding a stakeholder register and stakeholder engagement assessment, utilization of salience models and other tools as well as identifying some best practices relative to stakeholder engagement and management.

Performance Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
  • List the three types of project interfaces.
  • Understand the major roles of a project manager as related to resource management.
  • Describe typical human resources activities performed at the various phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and classify project stakeholders and complete a stakeholder analysis.
  • Be familiar with a stakeholder register.
  • Explain the role of authority, responsibility, accountability and reliability in a project.
  • Prepare a responsibility matrix or chart.
  • Describe common organizational structures.
  • Explain what a matrix organization is and how it relates to project management.
  • Identify a few processes that will assist in human resource management relative to projects.
  • This course addresses the following knowledge area identified by the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMI):
    • Stakeholder Management
    • Human Resource Management
    • Project Communications Management


    Audience: All interested employees responsible with the planning and management of any type of project. This course applies to private, public, government municipal and federal entities.
