Write Your Memoir    NEW!

We all have stories to tell. If you wish to turn yours into a memoir, this class will guide you through the process, whether you are a novice or an experienced writer. Topics covered include:

  • The bucket: collecting the raw materials
  • Shaping your raw materials into a story
  • Discovering if you are a comedy, a tragedy, or both
  • Writing about real people carefully
  • Case study: “This Boy’s Life”, by Tobias Wolff
  • Case study: “The Year of Magical Thinking”, by Joan Didion
  • Case study: “Me Talk Pretty One Day”, by David Sedaris
  • Getting the first draft done
  • Finding where to start and where to end
  • Quick tips for editing your work
  • What to do with your work once it’s finished

Your instructor brings over two decades of experience as a publishing house employee and as a published writer. By the end of the course, you should have completed a work of short non-fiction or a first chapter for your memoir.

This class will be online through Zoom. You must have Zoom downloaded on your computer and have a web camera, audio (microphone) and internet to take this class.
