Understanding the Pieces of Autism  

This expanded class offers an overview of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Examine the psychological, physiological, social and educational characteristics of individuals who have been identified as having autism.

Topics include:

  • Causes and prevalence of autism
  • Education placement options for individuals who are considered in need of special education services
  • Sensory issues and strategies
  • Behaviors you may encounter and strategies to assist
  • Puberty and sexuality

In addition, students participate in many hands on activities relating to autism including a walk in my shoes. This enables students to sense the struggles that a person with autism may endure, discuss behavior challenges and motivational activities and creating independence for those affected by autism. This course is designed for families, support providers, life coaches and professionals who wish to deepen their knowledge in supporting individuals with autism.

This class will be online through Zoom. You will receive a Zoom invitation prior to class. You must have Zoom downloaded on your computer and have a webcam, audio (microphone) and internet to take this class.
